You Are Not Alone

“…for you are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” – Psalm 23:4

It is perhaps the most famous writing in the entire Bible, Psalm 23.

It’s David’s masterpiece of peaceful solitude.

In the earlier Psalms he has written painful expressions of anxiety and anguish.  He laments that God has abandoned him because of his sin.   He cries out with deep passion for a God he cannot find.

Yet in this Psalm, David comes to a realization expressed in four powerful words that are easily over-looked…”you are with me.”

God…who resides in heaven and rules the universe; God who tosses stars in the sky for fun; God, the Creator and Sustainer of life…is the God that David describes as his personal shepherd who is always near.  Wow, what a transformation!

The Great Shepherd in always near.

Moses proclaimed it to the Israelites, “What great nation has a god as near to them as the Lord our God is near to us?” – Deut. 4:7 (NLT)  Paul announced it:  “He is not far from each one of us.” – Acts 17:27

And through the mist of all his sin David rediscovered the value of it when he declared, “You are with me.”

How about you?  Have you discovered the enormous blessing that David finally realized?

Have you discovered the secret of a God who daily proclaims, “for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9

We can learn a thing or two from David’s experience.  Somewhere in David’s wilderness wandering of life, he once again found his relationship with God.  He discovered that it wasn’t God who left him it was he who left God.

God had been there all along.

He’s still there today…waiting for you, calling your name.  Longing for a relationship with you!

Don’t go it alone in life…learn from David.

A relationship with God is worth pursuing!
