Stepping Up in 2013
February 3, 2013

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” – Proverbs 16:3

For some, 2012 was a great year and if given an option, you would just hit the replay button.

While for others, you are more than ready to say hello to a new year.

Regardless of where you are or where you think you are headed as we begin a new year, there is one thing that will always be true...God is faithful!

God is on His Throne!

He watches over us.  His hands offer us hope.  His love is our security.  His presence is our comforter.  We are never alone for God is with us always and His promises are sure and true!

As followers of Christ we are called to live a life of purpose.

In order to do that, we must plan to move in a specific direction, accomplish specific goals, and have an objective that we work toward achieving.

Our human instinct is to sit down and make plans for the coming year.  We set some goals for our lives and look at our finances, examine our personal habits and make whatever adjustments we deem necessary.  However, that is not what God calls us to do.

“In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” – Proverbs 16:9

With that in mind, I would like to challenge you to seek God’s direction for your life as we begin a new year.  Here are some questions to help you get started.

Are you willing to follow God’s known will for your life?

Are you willing to take the next step in your faith journey?

Improve your Prayer live?  Spend more time reading the Word of God?

Are you open to God presenting you with new opportunities and new challenges?

Are you willing to do something you have never done before for God?

Are you willing to become attached to Jesus with your life?

What are your spiritual goals for the coming year?

What are you relational goals for the coming year?

God made His plan for us easy to understand:

Therefore go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I given you.  And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. – Matthew 28:19-20

Go, Make, Baptize and Teach are all action verbs, which require action.  As we make our plans for 2013, may we not forget that God is counting on us as well as those who are living outside of Christ.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” – Proverbs 16:3
