From Good to Great

“Few people have a well-defined philosophy that guides their every move.”

George Barna

What do you stand for?  What drives your everyday life?  Are you willing to move from being good to becoming great for the glory of the Lord?  God wants us to be great and throughout history he has said so to his committed and faithful followers.

  • To Abraham he said, “I will make you into a great nation.” – Genesis 12:2
  • To David he proclaimed, “I will make your name great.” - Exodus 19:1/32:10
  • To Moses he ensured, “You will do great things.” – 1 Chronicles 17:8
  • And Jesus himself declared, “You will see even greater things.” – John 1:43-51

May I be so bold as to challenge you to accept God’s call to greatness in your life?

God is longing for you and the Alvin Church to become a unified body of believers who are committed to Christ and the high standards that He set for man.  God desires for our church to be a growing, developing, active and alive body of His people who daily walk in faith with him.  He seeks worshippers who know the true joy and happiness of walking in his ways and seeking first His Kingdom in their individual lives.  God earnestly cry’s out for our church to make a significant difference in the lives of the people of the Alvin community.  To be the hands and feet of Jesus in a world that is hurting…God longs to show his greatness through his people!

It’s a lofty goal and it won’t be easy…but we serve a God “who can do immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us…” Eph 3:20-21

Where do we start?  By asking God to go with us, to seek His wisdom for the journey and by laying a foundation of strong Biblically based life upon which He can utilize to His glory.

The Bible gives us a clear foundations for Godly and wise living.  By committing ourselves to the intentional pursuit of these Biblical values, we begin the building process of establishing something that others will find value and wisdom in pursuing for their own lives.

Here are some important values the Bible calls us to mold our lives around:

  • Value the Cross of Jesus Christ as the center of your faith.
  • Value the Holy Scriptures as a foundation for Godly living.
  • Value the immeasurable power of the Almighty God and his ability to change lives through the work of the Holy Spirit.
  • Value the essence of a Christ-centered life, marriage, and family.
  • Value the forgiveness of God’s grace and mercy.
  • Value the power of Prayer.
  • Value the importance of a strong, active, and alive congregation of God’s people.
  • Value the beauty of a life lived in obedience to God.
  • Value the exhilaration of congregational worship that provides instruction and encouragement to challenge growth in the Lord.
  • Value the development of the spiritual lives of our children and youth.
  • Value excellence in all things to the glory of God.
  • Value the intentional pursuit of those who do not know Christ.
  • Value the experienceof an authentic daily walk with Jesus Christ.
  • Value the glory of seeking God first in our lives.

Will you accept the challenge?  Will you seek the greatness God wants to bestow upon you?  Will you be a part of once again building the Alvin Church into a great and mighty witness for the Lord in the Alvin community?  If you will do your part and commit to Him, He will do His part.  “Come near to God and he will come near to you.” - James 4:8

This is an exciting time in the life of our church and in your personal spiritual walk of faith.

I look forward to seeing how God can and will use each of you to His glory!
