An Empty Water Jar

An Empty Water Jar

“Then leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, ‘Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did.  Could this be the Christ?’”

John 4:28-29

In John chapter 4, the Apostle John describes a story of a woman who journeys outside the city to a remote well.  Her purpose is to fill her jar with water, a daily task.  Unexpectedly, she finds a man leaning against the well when she arrives.  It is no ordinary man but rather it is Jesus.

He speaks to her.

She is taken aback...men don’t speak to women.

He continues.  She is intrigued.

They begin to dialog…she becomes at ease.

She came to draw water, but soon she lays down her inhibitions and talks openly.

As Jesus speaks she is captivated by his every word, this man is different than most.

She is puzzled by his interest in her, than amused by his thoughts and his wisdom.

She is interested, then curious.

She makes a statement as if she has some special knowledge about the one they call the Messiah.

Jesus declared, “I who speak to you am he.” (John 4:26)

Hearing this, and after some more dialogue, she turns and runs into town to tell everyone about this man, a total stranger, who told her everything about her life.

Never mind her fear.  Never mind the opinions of others.

Her excitement and enthusiasm is too great to keep quite.

And in the process she forgets about her water jar, the very thing that brought her to the well in the first place.

What about you, how has Christ changed your life?

Do you experience such joy and happiness in your life?

What do you go out of your way to do so that you don’t have to face your fear?

Jesus promises victory from our fears in life.

He empowered a Samaritan woman whose life was a mess...he can do the same for you too!

Need some relief from your daily grind?

May I encourage you to get to know a Jewish carpenter who can help you with your struggles and strife?

Is there an empty water jar in your life?

All God’s Wonderful Blessings to You!
