The Unsharpened Pencil

“Watch out!  Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 6:1

Rarely do I receive something via email worth passing on, however this landed in my mailbox over the weekend.  The message is a sermon in and of itself.  So I share it with you as someone who was touched by the thoughts of the author...who is unknown.  Enjoy, and take the message to heart!

I was shocked, confused and bewildered

As I entered Heaven's door,

Not by the beauty of it all,

Nor the lights or its decor.

But it was the folks in Heaven

who made me sputter and gasp;

the thieves, the liars, the alcoholics...

the sinners and the trash.

There stood the kid from seventh grade

who swiped my lunch money twice.

Next to him was my old neighbor

who never said anything nice.

Bob, who I always thought

was rotting away in hell,

was sitting pretty on cloud nine

looking incredibly happy and well.

I nudged Jesus, and asked, 'What's the deal?

I would love to hear your take.

How'd all these sinners get up here?

God must've made a mistake.’

‘And why is everyone so quiet?

So somber – Please, give me a clue?'

'Hush, my child,' He said, 'They're all in shock.

No one thought they'd be seeing you!'

“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged.  For you will be treated as you treat others.  The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.” – Matthew 7:1-2

Remember...Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian

any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.

Every saint has a PAST.

Every sinner has a FUTURE!

Life without God is like an unsharpened pencil...It has no point!

“God saved you by his grace.

Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” – Ephesians 2:8-9
